Match Comments: "After The Red Card, The Battle Really Started"

[25.10.] A red card as a kick-starter: At least in terms of showing heart and passion, the BVB players managed to convince their supporters in last night´s Cup match against Hannover. After the match, the Borussen took stock: "After the red card, we gave our best and went to the max", said Florian Kringe.

Martin Amedick: "Before the sending off, both teams neutralized each other. There were only few goal chances, but after the red card, the battle really started. We have to see positive things in this defeat, too. On the first glance, of course, we are our of the Cup competition. But now we always have to play as aggressive as we did after the red card. That was really a moment where something happened with the team. Plus, it also sparked our supporters."

Sören Pirson: "When the referee was reaching for his back pocket, I knew: Now it´s my turn. I wasn´t too nervous, my hands just shook a bit when I put my shin-guards on. But once I was on the pitch, I was 100 per cent present. My first touch of the ball was when we had a goal kick."

Florian Kringe: "We did really well when we were down one man. But then this... It wasn´t a dive. Dede said you can call it a penalty, but you don´t need to necessarily. At the beginning of the match, we had some problems, but after the red card we gave our best and went to the max. That was also acknowledged by our supporters who sensed it. Effort-wise, there´s nothing we could have done more. But we are still very disappointed."

Ebi Smolarek: "The red card surely didn´t make things easier for us. We had to fight more and maybe that´s what was missing in the first half. But we didn´t allow any goal chances then - and unfortunately didn´t create any either. We simply have to look ahead now."
